Haley Havelock, vinyasa yoga teacher at The Castro Room in San Francisco, seated on a wooden platform in a warm-toned studio, wearing a white tank top

What is your #1 priority as a teacher? What do you most hope to impart to your students?Embodiment.

Why is this important to you? There's no getting a new body, and to me there's nothing more profound or more worthwhile than learning to truly know, experience, and move in the one you have.

How would you describe your style of class?Vinyasa flow.

Who is/are/were your principal teacher(s)?My primary yoga teacher is Jason Crandell, with deep influences from Tias Little on the subtle body, Ram Dass on devotion and presence, and Rick Rubin on process and non-attachment to outcome. My strength and mobility coach Dennis Torres has profoundly shaped how I teach the body and how I approach movement altogether. My first teacher was Stephanie Snyder.

From what lineage(s) do you take inspiration?Vedanta, Iyengar, & weightlifting (specifically powerlifting).

How warm do you like the room?83-88°F.

What's your favorite yoga book? The Bhagavad Gita.
