About Opening Circle:

Beneath Contact is a relational movement experience that harmonizes body, mind and spirit through trauma-informed contact improvisation exercises.

Following a lesson on attachment theory, we focus on supporting boundaries, initiating contact, building connections, and regulating our nervous systems.

Through dynamic partner games, we explore the imbalance of leading and following, saying yes and no, and cultivating energetic integrity individually and within the community.
Together, we create a space for authentic expression, transforming attachment styles into liberation through mindful exchanges of contact.

About our DJ’s/Musician:

For over a decade, from 2003 to 2015, DJ Shu cultivated dance floors across the deep progressive house scene, weaving rhythmic journeys that balanced groove with emotion, earthiness with transcendence. After stepping away from the decks to explore healing modalities and medicine work, Shu returns with a vision that integrates spiritual depth with the dancefloor's collective pulse.

As both a DJ and a dancer, Shu understands the floor from the inside out. Each set is an intentional sonic journey that begins in safety and connectedness, ventures into the fertile discomfort of the unknown, and returns transformed to lightness. Drawing from years of inner work and healing practice, Shu's approach honors the three dimensions of ecstatic dance: the intrapersonal (self-connection), the interpersonal (relational contact), and the transpersonal (the soulful, spiritual realm that moves through us all).

What distinguishes Shu's sound is a devotion to musicality: tracks rich with live instrumentation, where melody and rhythm hold equal weight, where grooves carry emotional resonance. This is music for dancers who truly listen, who attune not just to the beat but to the subtle shifts and textures that guide the body's exploration. The dance floor becomes a co-creation, where individual expression and collective consciousness merge into something greater than the sum of its parts.

Shu holds space with one foot in the spiritual and one in the relational, inviting dancers into heart-opening, embodied presence. When you leave a DJ Shu set, you carry something with you: a sense of connection—to yourself, to others, to the greater mystery that moves through music and movement alike.

For the dancers who listen. For the journey inward and outward. For the space we create together.
